“We Think Feminist” Club was created in 2018-2019 by Teesta Kasargod, a Sophomore at the IB World School at Plano East Senior High, Plano, TX. The formation of the Club has been approved by the Plano Independent School District (Plano ISD) under the express condition that we never use the abbreviation of the title “We Think Feminist”. The Club operates under the able guidance of the teacher sponsor, Ms. Cynthia Tomotaki.
Vision
Be a leading student club that works towards creating a World in which all women, men, and humans of any gender are EQUALLY respected, always have the freedom to defend their rights and can live free of prejudice.
Mission Statement
To enable students to advance the World understanding of gender equality, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of women’s health, the support of girls’ education, and empowerment of women, through acts of leadership, service, & volunteering.
Goals
The goal of the “We Think Feminist” Club is to make a difference in the World by targeting women’s issues in our schools and the local community. We also want to educate ourselves and raise awareness of the various gender-related issues that women face in today’s world such as unequal pay, gender discrimination, under-education, sexual assault, domestic violence/abuse, and in some countries trafficking, female infanticide, and child marriage. The Club will also discuss issues such as stigma and stereotypes that surround women in the workplace and society.
Activities
The Club plans to conduct or participate in activities such as organizing fundraisers/ drives in support of the aforementioned issues, as well as volunteering with various women’s organizations and shelters in North Texas that provide long-term transformational care to women and their children in a shared living environment. The Club organizes a Guest Speaker Series where prominent people from our Community who care about gender equality and empowerment of women can share their experiences and educate students and other audiences about the issues and possible solutions.
